CIRCULATING NURSE

Coordinates with the bedside nurse for any pre-operative or post-operative special endorsements and instructions.

Accepts patients coming from the General Units or Emergency Room with valid consents both SIGNED by the surgeon and anesthesiologist.

Assist and accompany patients inside the operating theatre, keeping the patient safe during transfers

Hook to theatre monitors and monitor patient s' vital signs throughout the procedure , notifying the anesthesiologist for any deviation.

Documentation and recording for medical and legal purposes

Assist the anesthesiologist in administering anesthesia and other procedures.

Time-out procedure is done preoperatively (thrice) and acknowledged by the Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, Circulating Nurse, and Scrub Nurse.

Proper skin preparation and positioning done depending on the type of operation to be performed

Proper counting of needles, sponges and instruments is done in coordination with the scrub nurse ensuring its completeness.

Administration of prescribed medications and blood products.

Oversees and attends to the need of the entire surgical team

Responds to surgical emergencies requirements such as cardiac, pulmonary or respiratory failure and cardiac failure

Proper endorsement of Post-operative patients to the PACU or to other healthcare facility

SCRUB NURSE

Prepares the operating room with the necessary equipment, supplies and instrument sets to be used for the operation.

Consults the operating surgeon and the assists to make sure that supplies and equipment to be used in the operation are ready and available.

Does proper hand scrubbing technique, prepares and readies sterile packs and instruments to be used

Time-out procedure is done preoperatively (thrice) and acknowledged by the Surgeon, Anesthesiologist, Circulating Nurse, and Scrub Nurse.

Assists surgical team in handling instruments needed during procedures taking full responsibility over articles used until the end of the procedure.

Proper counting of needles, sponges and instruments is done in coordination with the circulating nurse ensuring its completeness.

Knowledge of the instrumentations to be used for the operation is a must.

Proper labelling, encoding and sending to pathology of specimen is done after the procedure.

Performs aftercare of the instruments and equipment used, properly disposes used supplies and medications, arranges the theatre to accommodate next case.
