Primary care, assessment and evaluation of pediatric hematology-oncology and bone marrow/stem cell transplant patients in the outpatient cancer and infusion center

Provide infusion services for other pediatric specialties including immunology, rheumatology, gastroenterology/liver transplantation, neurology, genetics, nephrology and endocrinology

Administer a wide variety of chemotherapy and biotherapy drugs intravenously, subcutaneously and orally to various patient populations

Administer several types of blood products including red blood cells, platelets, fresh frozen plasma, cryoprecipitate with appropriate documentation of monitoring and education

Perform modified exchange transfusions for the sickle cell population providing one-on-one monitoring

Proficient in the care and usage of central venous devices including port-a-caths, hickman/broviac catheters, PICC lines

Perform phlebotomy and peripheral IV insertions for patient populations served in the outpatient cancer and infusion center

Function in a critical care role in the pediatric outpatient cancer center which serves as the day emergency room for hematology-oncology patients

Work extensively with the oncology population from diagnosis through treatment and into long term follow-up providing education on disease specifics, medication information, lab values/parameters for transfusion, side effects, late effects

Work extensively with the bone marrow/stem cell transplant population pre and post transplant providing supportive care that includes lab work, medication administration, transfusions

Work extensively with the sickle cell anemia population providing education on disease specifics, medication information, lab values/parameters for transfusions

Serve on central line committee to maintain updated practice and education guidelines for staff, patients and families

Work closely with research staff on patient consents, lab and data collection/documentation for patients enrolled in national pediatric clinical cancer studies and Phase I trials

Collaborate with MD's, Fellows, Nurse Practitioners daily and utilize the services of social workers, dieticians, physical and occupational therapists, psychologists and child life specialists to provide care for chronic patients populations

Routinely serves as preceptor to new staff to the outpatient cancer and infusion center
