As manager, my team and I managed to bring calf survival rates up to an average of 95% for many years. This is one accomplishment, I am most proud of in my time with United Pride Dairy.
I started part time in high school, where I got to feed and water calves, prepare milk bottles, and wash dishes in a dish washer.
After graduation in 2015 I went full time and picked up more responsibilities, learning more on administering and treating calves with antibiotics when they were sick, cleaning pens, washing milk equipment and making sure they were sanitized properly for the next calf, and weighing and moving them to the next barn with a skidsteer and attachment.
In 2019, I was offered the position Calf Manager, and took on more responsibilities of running the calf barns from newborn to 7ish months old, ordering calf grain and treatments weekly from companies we worked with, creating our monthly calf feeding schedules, hiring/ training new employees, handling on call and work questions, and working with our veterinarians and genetic company to create a good weaning program to continue growing happy, healthy calves.
