I am a Scholar-Athlete (Soccer) at the University of Mary and I was in Sioux Falls playing for a Semi-Professional Team over the summer and wanted to have something to do in my free time to better myself as a person and give myself new experiences. I worked with various ages from newborn to 10 years old, along with some children who had disabilities. I helped and provided learning activities for the children, helped out during free time, provided lunch, cleaned up, etc.
I began as a receptionist here, I would help schedule/reschedule appointments, scan information into patients' charts, dealt with different insurances to figure out deductibles and payments, and prepare files for Mohs surgeries.
As a medical assistant, I would start the new charts for the patients' visit, call them back, and communicate with them to figure out if there was a concern or if they were there for a yearly check-up. I would keep track of any medications or concerns the doctor would have by entering them into the chart, and help set up biopsies by organizing needed tools, and bandages, inserting lidocaine into the area being biopsied to numb, bandaging the patient and getting the biopsied skin prepared tobe sent to a lab. I was also removing stitches from any biopsies or surgeries the patients had in the past.
During Mohs surgery I would help out with handing the doctor any tools needed, I helped clean up any excess bleeding along with cauterizing areas that had trouble stopping bleeding and helped with cutting areas of the fibers used to stitch the patient shut.
