I operated a 185x36 steel hull supply vessel,as a lead/security vessel for a 300ft survey vessel,under tow 250ft behind vessel with 6 sonars,with a spread of 240ft in total.
The Job consist of satyin ahead of the survey vessel, with a CPA 1&1/2 miles ahead of survey vessel. We kept the the path of grid clear from other vessels, fishing long lines, and any other obstacles.
We also delivered groceries, supplies and anything else needed.
If I remember correctly we worked 50 square mile grids at a time,in different areas of the gulf of mexico.
My first Job in the oil field.I started out operating a 110ft steel hull with naturally aspirated twin Detroit 1271s. We ran water and supplies to the oil rigs,we also took personal from rig to rig, whatever needed to be done. 42 days on my first hitch.
The next boat was a 120 steel hull, with twin turbocharged Detroit 1271s. Doing the same type of work.
The last boat I worked on for this company was a 145 with German engines inline 9 cylinders 1100hp peace. We worked along side of oilrigs/platforms with company of 8-12 construction workers, sandblasting, grinding, welding, and painting.
I operated a tracked skidsteer land clearing and landscaping.
I owned and operated a 1961 fiberglass over wood 47ft sport fisher, twin 420hp 3126 cat engines. We chartered fished for reef fish and commercial fished for king mackerel.
I also did bull rigging 40k pound pipe stole off of cranes and bull/ pulled into structure and placed into pipe racks using multiple chain faults and come alongs in sequence, walking ibeams 65ft off the ground working them.
We done the same with boiler tube's and huge valves.
I worked for this company on and off for about 10 years,if I was in between jobs this is where I was.
We worked in between 15 to 60 miles offshore for 2-4 days fully loaded around 3000 pounds of fish. We caught red snapper, grouper, vermilion snapper, white snapper, trigger fish, and king mackerel.
It was hard work, and hard on the body. But I enjoyed it for the most part. Unless we didn't catch the fish, because no fish there's no pay.
We worked out of town at the USCG air station in Elizabeth City North Carolina.
I operated concrete drill for expansion in the day,and as a Sawman at night, cutting expansion joints in the concrete.
We worked at least 100hrs a week and at most 125hrs a week for a month and half.
When we returned back to are home town I stayed employed as a Sawman and drilling for expansion joints.
I then moved up to a mechanics helper, and sometimes the only mechanic on site. Diesel, gas engines and DC electric.
