Senior Network Engineer

Silicon Valley Bank

  • Responsible for SVB’s Global Networking Foundation, which includes both Domestic and International sites. As the primary Sr. Network Engineer, I worked with the networking team to redesign and re-architect SVB’s global network to support a converged network and migrated SVB from a legacy PBX telecom solution to a VoIP Cisco IP Phone solution. This involved working with management and IT to migrate from a legacy Frame Relay network to a multi-carrier MPLS fully redundant WAN.
    • As a Financial Institution Disaster Recovery is critical for our Business, and the networks have been designed to support a Dual-Data Center Strategy with automatic fail-over from any of our remote offices to the Data Centers. This design gives SVB the capability to leverage any of our Remote Offices as a DR site for our Business, and enables IT to begin our recovery process with no network intervention.
    • Designed and Implemented the core Networking Foundation for SVB’s Client Facing Environments, (OnLine Banking and Analytics Web Site). This required a lot of time and focus on Security and High Availability.
    • Design and Build out of new Primary Data Center in Salt Lake City to support SVB’s Dual Data Center Strategy. This included designing the Data Center Environment, eCommerce Environment, and a Extranet Environment.
    • Redesigned SVB’s Client SSL VPN solution to support a geo-clustered solution leveraging Juniper SSL/VPN and RSA/ACE for two factor authentication. To give SVB an added level of protection, an IDS which interoperates with the Juniper Solution was deployed to handle unusual or suspicious network traffic coming from the remote user. This Project aligns with SVB’s two Data Center Strategy and enables users to VPN into either Santa Clara or Salt Lake City in the event of a failure or disaster using Cisco’s GSS.
