• My teaching approach combines high expectations with intentional support. I believe students are most successful when instructors make the expectations of college-level work transparent, provide opportunities to practice challenging skills, offer specific and actionable feedback, and give students meaningful opportunities to apply that feedback.
• My experience teaching dual-enrollment English has reinforced the importance of recognizing that students can enter the same classroom with substantially different levels of preparation and familiarity with college expectations. Rather than lowering academic standards, I use modeling, scaffolding, discussion, guided practice, revision, and individualized feedback to create multiple pathways toward meeting those standards.
• I also view student success as extending beyond an individual assignment. Faculty can help students understand how to navigate college expectations, identify resources, develop academic confidence, and recognize themselves as capable members of a college learning community.
