I would help the child with his homework every day after school, he was 8 when he started tutoring with me and still till this day I tutor him, he is turning 13 this year, the sessions are held at my house as there are less distractions
I helped him with all his homework from reading and forming sentences to learning basic math's, when it comes to assignments I only helped with research and then let him do it all by himself, because you learn when you actually do it yourself and learn from your mistakes and then we would focus on those mistakes and help them improve next time
Now that he is in his final year of primary school, we are also doing weekend classes to increase his chances to get into high school

Lagenhoven Library

I would volunteer to read books to the children at the library, I would often switch between Afrikaans and English as the children I read to went to the same school as myself and we prioritize English and Afrikaans as our main two languages
The number of books I would read depended on the age group of the children I would be reading to, for the younger children, 6-10, I would read short interactive stories that would usually come with a lesson and then when I'm done reading, we would have discussions about what we learned from the story and how we can apply it to our daily lives, because the stories were short I could easily read up to 4 books a day
For the older children, 10+, I would choose books that aid them academically as this is the age when they start taking subjects at school, these books would help them improve their vocabulary and if someone did not understand we would all take a break and focus on the misunderstanding until everyone understood, this takes time and sometimes it would take time to complete a book
I would volunteer to read Mondays, Wednesday and Friday, because on Tuesday and Thursday we would do activities outside the library like treasure hunts, baking cookies, art work, sometimes we would go on a nature walk and pick up trash around the town, sometimes we would join other libraries and do projects together, I often helped in picking out activities to do and even established a book club
