I am an enthusiastic occupational therapy student with a passion for working with children. I am excited for the opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills in Pediatrics during my Level II Fieldwork at Charleston Children's Therapy Center. My expertise lies in utilizing evidence-based practice to address sensory processing skills, fine and gross motor development, and activities of daily living. Additionally, my background has equipped me with the ability to effectively collaborate with a team, communicate clearly, and utilize strong interpersonal skills. I am eager to apply my classroom knowledge to hands-on experiences and contribute to children's functional skills that will help them reach their full potential.
I have just began my fieldwork in the transitional unit of care. I have had the opportunity to observe evaluations, functional and dynamic exercises, documentation, as well as equipment recommendations. I am extremely excited for the following ten weeks to observe and learn more about this setting and OT!
I assisted in implementing a sensory room where we helped create a controlled and stimulating environment to address sensory processing challenges. Some of the main concepts we focused on were sensory integration, sensory processing skills, behavioral and emotional regulation, social participation, and fine and gross motor skill development.
I worked as an aid in both outpatient and inpatient rehabilitation as well as some wound care. I supported clients with therapeutic activities and home exercise programs prior to their discharge. My responsibilities included assisting therapists, gathering materials for sessions, completing upper extremity exercises, patient education, and ensuring a safe environment for therapist and their clients.
