Responsibilities: Manage staff of 14 Meteorologist located in Global Operations Control Center in Memphis, Tennessee. The FedEx Meteorology department is approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as the primary source of forecasts in support of trunk aircraft operations for all domestic, and where available, international airports.
Meteorologists provide guidance on en-route hazardous weather conditions, potential for icing, turbulence and other meteorological conditions that may adversely impact daily operations.
The Meteorology Department also provides weather forecasts and guidance to all FedEx Operating companies on a 24x7x365 time scale.
The mission of the FedEx Meteorology department is to serve all FedEx operating companies by providing the most accurate and timely global weather support services, thereby helping to ensure FedEx remains the safest, most reliable, and cost-efficient air transportation system in the world.
Ensure department internal and external regulatory documents, including FAA approved Enhanced Weather Information System (EWINS), are updated and comply with company and government regulations.
Oversee internal training of current and new Meteorologists and weather material for aircraft dispatchers as required by FAA regulations.
Responsibilities: Provides global aviation and U.S. surface movement forecasts decision support to Flight Operations and Global operations Control to mitigate weather impacts to the line haul system.
Prepare and issue terminal and en-route weather forecasts for trunk flight operations as required.
Monitor forecasts for accuracy and amend the forecast as required.
Provide written and/or verbal weather briefings to control center personnel, flight crewmembers, and line haul representatives.
Coordinate air operations with global operations control ATC personnel.
Issue adhoc contingency briefings for events such as tropical storms, winter weather, severe weather, and natural phenomenon such as volcanic eruptions/ash events, solar weather, earthquakes, and tsunamis.
Issue winter weather alerts for hubs and major markets in support of aircraft de-icing operations.
Construct tailored briefing aids and prognostic charts and videos for corporate use.
Produce and disseminate dozens of TAF's to numerous airline customers around the world.
Analyze surface and upper air charts and provide internal graphics department current and forecast weather charts for media, government, and private sector clients around the world.
Produce weather hazard products for numerous regional and legacy airlines including forecast turbulence, en-route icing, and convective events.
Produce weather graphics for television graphics and discussions for stations in Indonesia, Philippines, and Germany.
Produce agricultural products for customers in the U.S.
Product detailed seven day forecasts for key customer airports around the U.S. including Minneapolis, Washington Dulles, Washington National, and Wilmington, OH.
