  • Studied the different methods in which conservation dives were performed, and how each survey was done.
  • Listened in lectures describing the importance of marine conservation, impact of sharks and turtles, and the threats that harm marine life.
  • Participated in a total of two conservation and research dives. During these dives, I was able to dive along a transect line and record data while surveying the area for the indicator species that were being monitored. One of these dives had a focus on invertebrate indicator species, while the other focused on vertebrates.

  • Participated in a research opportunity by partaking in a diet study of an Asian elephant. Took notes on the mannerisms, observing the diet and behaviors, as well as collecting the defecations of an elephant while it was in an environment designed to mimic that of their natural environment. Research collected was then discussed, presented and analyzed.
  • Shadowed Thai elephant Veterinarians in Elephant nature park. Assisted with administering medications, providing clinical care, and collecting samples.
  • Gained up to 80 hours of service through the duration of the Internship. Service hours included but were not limited to; walking disabled dogs, cleaning elephant defecations, working in the elephant kitchen and delivering and feeding elephants during meal times.
  • Gained a better understanding and practice of clinical skills when working with domestic animals. Skills include but are not limited to; performing a physical exam, IV catheter placement, blood draws, anesthesia monitoring, suture techniques and drug dosage calculations.
  • Shadowed and assisted 2 veterinarians during the neuter and spay surgeries of both dogs and cats. During these surgeries, gained insight on both the surgical aspect of the procedure as well as the patient monitoring
