Accomplishments

  • Collaborated with a team of 3 in the development of a 5 stage pipelined, 32 bit implementation of the RISC-V ISA in SystemVerilog. Our implementation included an i-cache, d-cache, 1KB 4-way set associative L2 cache, an arbiter between the L1 and L2 caches, a local history branch predictor with a BTB, and the M-extension. My groups design won 4th place out of 27 in the class competition which was weighted for high speed and low power. We also won 4th place on a coremark competition (industry used CPU benchmarking program) out of 17 groups using the same metrics. Github: github.com/skyeblu7/Malfunctioning-CPU
  • Designed in a team of 2 the layout implementation of AMD's 2901b 16-bit microprocessor using 4 bitslices. I personally designed the ALU schematics and physical Layout. We used Cadence Virtuoso's wave generator and a SystemVerilog testbench to debug our design. I used Virtuoso and Innovus to synthesize and generate the place and route of the control unit. • Programmed in a group of 2 a functional game of Tetris in SystemVerilog usign Altera's DE2-115 FPGA development board. We developed the VGA driver that allowed visuals and all the game logic including collision detection, random number generation, ghost peices. The keyboard interface used USB but was written in C using the NOIS II IP. A python script was written to map the color values of each pixel in an image to a text file which would be later mapped to and read from on-chip memory on the FPGA.
  • Wrote an arcade-like missile defense game in x86 assembly.
  • Wrote a driver in C for a controller to interface with a game. The interface includes an A, B, C, ON, LEFT, RIGHT, UP and DOWN buttons as well as four 7-segment displays that keep track of the gametime.
  • OS systems development: Developed interrupt handlers for an operating system’s rtc, and keyboard. Wrote a terminal to capture the keyboard’s inputs and display them on the display.

Affiliations

  • SigARCH - Led for 1 year. Created workshops to familiarize freshmen with SystemVerilog and designing hardware on Xillinx based FPGAs. We used the Arty-z7 and Xilinx's Vivado WebPack.
