Abstract/Summary
Background
Occupational voice users are individuals who rely on their voice as an integral part of their profession. Examples of these professionals include teachers and singers, and this population is estimated to include about 25% of the United States workforce (Titze, Lemke, & Montequin, 1997; Hunter & Titze 2009; Titze, Švec, & Popolo, 2003). Due to their elevated voice use, these individuals are at an increased risk of developing voice disorders.
Objective
This study leverages the educational potential of game design to explore the efficacy of non-digital games as educational tools for teaching the importance of vocal hygiene. Undergraduate students, some of whom may go on to pursue vocally demanding jobs, are an ideal test population for this paradigm....
