About The Job:
  
This position serves as the Institutional Teacher in the Education Department in a juvenile correctional facility. The individual teaches academic and/or vocational subject matter at the elementary or secondary levels or in necessary special classes. Students include mentally or physically handicapped, socially, or emotionally disturbed individuals or multiple handicapped persons. The Institutional Teacher prepares daily and weekly lesson plans, records and evaluates performance and progress of students, arranges and coordinates field trips or experiential learning, and administers group achievement and other kinds of evaluative instruments. The Institutional Teacher may also sponsor special activities or student organizations, assist students in selection of course of study, and counsel students with academic or vocational problems. The Institutional Teacher is responsible for maintaining discipline in the classroom and the school building. The Institutional Teacher participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops. Institutional Teacher reports directly to the Principal and performs duties with minimal supervision. 
  
A Day In The Life:
  
The essential functions of this role are as follows:

* Provide instruction based on acceptable practice that addresses each student's Individual Education Plan goals and state standards where appropriate;
* Assess student needs, document student progress and report progress to parents quarterly via IEP updates;
* Assume responsibility for student safety during instruction;
* Lead or participate on school improvement committees;
* Assist with supervision of co-curricular events
* Provide information to students in their appropriate communication mode.

What You'll Need For Success:

* Valid Teacher's license or emergency license through the State of Indiana
* Bachelor's degree or higher in education;
* Certification in area orientation and mobility;
* Certification or willingness to acquire within three years certification, in area of visual impairment.
  
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
  
This role does not provide direct supervision to direct reports.

If this is an Intermittent position, the position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
