Duke TIP
I qualified for Duke University’s summer program in seventh grade due to my ACT score. I proceeded to continue this program for three consecutive summers until I began taking college classes and working. I took a Sociology, Leadership, and Neuroscience course through this program.
National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists
I was selected to be a delegate at this Congress through Harvard University during the summer of 2022. Unfortunately, I was already committed to taking my college courses and gaining work experience, so I did not participate. However, I have been selected again this upcoming summer and I have full intentions of participating.
National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Business Innovation
I was invited to do this seven day program through Yale University during the summer of 2022. Unfortunately, I was already committed to taking my college courses and gaining work experience, so I did not participate. However, I have been selected again this upcoming summer and I have full intentions of participating.
National American Miss (NAM)
I was selected to compete for the title of Miss Georgia Teen through National American Miss during my senior year of high school. I have been recognized for my academic achievements and community involvement, leading me to become a state finalist in this pageant.
Girl Scouts
The hours spent per week varies due to different activities and events that are planned. This would also affect the weeks per year as regular meetings are one Saturday per month, but community service is an inconsistent pattern. I am a senior troop leader in my Girl Scouts troop and I have been involved since kindergarten. I have already received my bronze and silver award and am currently working towards my gold award. I am a part of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, which is an all African American girl’s troop. With this being said, some of my greatest accomplishments include organizing peaceful protests, feeding the homeless, handcrafting quilts for single mothers, and participating in Battle of the Bands.
Girl’s Inc
The hours spent per week varies due to different activities and events that are planned. I have participated in Girl’s Inc since my sixth grade school year. During my time I have been able to deepen my understanding on what it means to be a feminist. We meet four times a week in two hour segments to discuss ways to improve our community and form concrete sisterly bonds. My hard work in this organization has led to me earning the Girl’s Inc Leading Women of Distinction award.
Technology Student Association
I was a part of the Technology Science Association at my school during my high school years. I enjoyed my time there as I did well in competitions and widened my knowledge on technology. During my freshman year, my partner and I placed third in the state competition for our children’s book discussing special needs students. We also won third in the robotics competition for creating/coding a moving and roaring dinosaur from scratch.
Tutoring
I offer tutoring services for students that take Economics, Psychology, Biology, Physics, Algebra, English, and History of the Americas. I was able to pass most of these classes with A’s which led to my teachers suggesting that I begin tutoring. To make things more accessible to students, oftentimes I will allow them to set the pace and a meeting location. Many students have benefited from my services and have recommended me to others. During fall 2023, I was hired by Grade Potential Tutoring which allowed me to tutor a broader age range of students (kindergarten-college).
