Undergraduate Research Lab

Research focused on mouse cytomegalovirus (MCMV), examining its infectivity and proliferation stages. Gained hands-on experience in passaging pure cell lines to maintain cellular integrity and prevent contamination. Also performed plasmid mini-preps to isolate and purify small quantities of plasmid DNA from bacterial cultures.

Auburn Core Labs

• Clinical Microbiology Lab provided training in aseptic techniques for handling hazardous bacterial samples. Emphasis was placed on diagnostic microbiology, with over 35 biochemical assays performed to accurately identify and classify bacterial species.
• Cell Biology Lab focused on molecular biology techniques, including Western blotting and reverse PCR. The objective was to insert a new gene at a targeted location and evaluate its expression under various stress conditions.
