Work History

Head of R&D (Manager)

tesa/Functional Coatings
01.2019 - Current
  • Lead R&D for plant Newburyport, part of tesa tape North America
  • Designed a new R&D laboratory including new analytics for Hotmelt (PSA) Adhesive formulation and testing
  • Nearly 5 years of experience managing direct reports in R&D team and project pipeline for new product launch and process optimization.
  • Worked on throughput PSA technology in a newly installed extrusion line and help transition from batch mixing to continuous solvent free extrusion of PSA
  • Designed rheology experiments for both R&D and Quality Control teams
  • Represent R&D department in internal/external audits and trained on ISO 9001-2015
  • Work together with Quality Control, Production, Marketing, and other departments at management level
  • Facilitate communication/meetings between local and international R&D teams across tesa organization in USA and Germany
  • Lead discussion and meetings with external customers as Head of R&D at technical level
  • Work with industry standards for commercial/residential buildings tape manufacturing and testing
  • Involved in new talent acquisition for tesa/Functional Coatings via interview and trainings.

Education

Postdoctoral Associate -

Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Cambridge, Massachusetts
01.2019

Ph.D., Chemistry -

University of Missouri-Columbia
Columbia, Missouri
05.2015

Skills

  • Inorganic and organic synthetic (glovebox and schlenk line) chemistry and catalysis
  • Designed/built a photoreactor for frozen matrix photolysis experiments
  • spectroscopic techniques: NMR, IR, EPR, MS, UV-Vis and fluorescence, GSC and TGA
  • GPC and other Chromatography for purification (GC, ion exchange and regular column)
  • Crystallography and characterization of organic, inorganic, and organometallic compounds
  • Reaction kinetics
  • Computational modeling (DFT and TDDFT)
  • In-depth rheology analysis
  • FMEA, DFMEA

LEADERSHIP

In 2019, I accepted the challenge not just going into a new area of science also bringing a new tesa acquisition to a corporate level. tesa being a global company had very limited knowledge in building industry and related tape manufacturing. Corporate management in Germany (HQ) and North America (R&D-Michigan) relied on my leadership and supported me to achieve corporate goals in a completely new market segment.

CERTIFICATIONS AND TRAININGS

  • Kaufman Teaching Certificate Program (MIT)
  • Helping Individuals Lead Successfully (Staub International)
  • tesa Stage Gate Project Portfolio Management

RESEARCH

  • Postdoctoral Research Associate (Massachusetts Institute of Technology): I worked under Professor Richard R. Schrock (Nobel laureate-2005) nearly for 3.5 years focusing on extensive investigations on catalytic dinitrogen reduction to ammonia under ambient conditions. Synthesis of target macromolecular ligand framework was done via series of reactions (~10 steps) followed by metalation and study of mechanistic/catalytic information for nitrogen fixation. I had the privilege to plan and execute the project more independently and deliver objectives.

  • Graduate studies, Ph.D in Chemistry (University of Missouri-Columbia): During my graduate studies Professor Paul R Sharp guided research on harnessing solar energy and water splitting. Focused on synthesis of platinum(IV)-hydroxo-hydroperoxo complexes and investigation of photochemistry. Involved in designing new experiments and apparatus leading to novel chemistry. Trained on Schlenk line techniques for moisture and air sensitive synthesis, computational modeling, analysis of experimental data and characterization techniques.
