I have a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Simmons University in Boston, MA that drives my passions for educating others about sustainability. Teaches 5th-8th grade science in various disciplines, including environmental science, biology, physics, chemistry, and earth sciences. Develops hands-on curriculum, projects, and assessments about clean technology and human impact on climate change. Establishes partnerships with nonprofit and private businesses throughout North Carolina to serve students and schools. Co-leads Environmental Stewardship Committee of staff and parents. Frequently meets with administration to build initiatives, such as the elimination of pesticides, and campaigns to save electricity. Balanced individual club budgets and student reimbursements. Promoted communal learning, confidence, appreciation, and connectivity to the environment in students through interactive learning. Developed lesson plan and all supplementary materials for classes taught in various disciplines such as conservation biology, ecology, and chemistry.
Under contract with the US Forest Service, conducted Mexican Spotted Owl occupancy surveys throughout National Forests of AZ and NM. Effectively communicated with USFS, project coordinator, crew leader, research partner, Wildland Fire Modules, and other technicians to ensure safety and accuracy of surveys. Navigated to 1km2 sampling locations via forest service roads and night-hiked to survey points using USGS topographic maps, GPS units, Google Earth, and UTM coordinates. Identified 17 nocturnal bird calls, in addition to male, female, and juvenile MSO. Assisted in Carson monitoring after completion of the regular season while surveying up to 26 points a night.
