Working in many fields within the workforce, I gained many skills that will help in becoming a well-rounded paralegal. Being a receptionist has helped with many skills such as filing skills, organization, taking phone calls, appointment planning, and customer service. Working as a resident associate has shown how to help manage people, grow interpersonal relationships, work in high-stress situations, and work in a group to give the best care possible. It is working within the healthcare system where I learned HIPA and how to keep the information confidential similar to "attorney-client privilege." Working for a company such as Kwik Trip, represented an understanding of working under management, setting team goals, working as a team to be successful and reach goals, and working at a fast pace to maintain customers' needs. Being a paralegal a team has to come together to be successful when working a case. Finally working as a bartender I have had the opportunity to train as well as manage people. Being a good bartender you learn to thrive in high-stress situations, work through and solve conflicts between people, and help plan and organize events. Begining my college journey as a nursing student and made the decision to switch my major to a paralegal. The skills I have found I am best at align with the skills needed to be an excellent paralegal such as organization, communication skills, being able to manage and prioritize task, and much more. As I grow to learn more about law in my classes I want to put my knowledge to use. Being a hands on leaner I am ready to get my foot in the door of a law firm and put these skills to use.
