I care for a variety of medical-surgical progressive patients while working on this unit. This includes patients of varying illnesses and diagnosis that require the following care (but are not limited to):


  • Drip monitoring and titrations of the drugs Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, etc.
  • Management, care and monitoring of chest tubes, drains (variety), NG/Dobhoff tubes, tube feeds, continuous bladder irrigation, peritoneal dialysis, tracheostomies, colostomies, etc.
  • Administration of several types of medications and monitoring responses while working with healthcare teams to adjust care plans

I cared for a variety of cardiac, thoracic and vascular patients of varying ages and diagnosis while working this unit. Examples of the care I provided and skills I developed are as follows (but not limited to):


  • Provided pre- and postoperative care for patients who had pacemakers, heart caths, open heart surgery, TAVR procedures, amputations, angiograms with stenting, carotid endarterectomies, etc.
  • Cardiac drip initiation/monitoring/titration
  • Care/treatment of patients with hematomas, pseudoaneurysms
  • Management/monitoring/care of temporary transvenous pacemakers, BiPAP-dependent patients, chest tubes, pacing wires, sheaths (and removal), HiFlo oxygen or Vapotherm etc.
  • Experience floating to ER and other medical-surgical progressive units to care for patients at a progressive level of care
