I have been with the Cancer Center for the past 16.5 years. While there, I have done a lot of positions. I have worked in the chemotherapy infusion area. There I have started IV's, accessed SQ mediports, drawn blood, administered chemotherapy, as well as blood transfusions. Also within the infusion area, I have worked with IV antibiotics and other infusions, such as IVIG, zometa and others. I have experience with PICC lines by flushing, drawing blood, dressing changes and infusing meds through them.
I have also been charge nurse when needed overseeing staffing and helping others to make the clinic run smoothly. I have also trained several new employees over the years in each area as well.
Most recently I work closely with the providers in the exam hall. I am able to do vital signs, head to toe assessments, triage phone calls, patient and family teaching, placing orders, obtaining reports of scans or labs and letting the providers know of significant changes in the patients.
I have enjoyed working closely with the patients and getting to know them and their families, which also helps them through there journey of their illness or disease. Providing education and comfort to them as well to help make it easier in some cases.
