As a Theatre Technician Assistant, you will assist the technical team in the setup, operation, and teardown of all technical elements for school productions, assemblies, and events. This role involves working backstage and supporting the technical aspects of theatre productions, including lighting, sound, set construction, and props management. No prior experience is necessary; training will be provided on the job.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in setting up and operating lighting and sound equipment for rehearsals and performances.
• Help build, paint, and assemble stage sets and props.
• Work with the technical team to maintain and organize theatre equipment, tools, and supplies.
• Aid in the setup and breakdown of theatre seating and stage configurations as needed.
• Learn to operate technical equipment such as microphones, lighting consoles, and soundboards under supervision.
• Support in costume and prop management, including storage and organization.
• Perform basic repairs and maintenance on sets, props, and technical equipment as instructed.
• Assist with stage management duties during rehearsals and performances (e.g., moving props, setting up scenes, and ensuring smooth scene transitions).
• Follow safety procedures and assist in maintaining a safe work environment in the theatre.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Interest in theatre and the performing arts.
• Willingness to learn new technical skills related to theatre production.
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
• Basic understanding of or willingness to learn about stagecraft, lighting, and sound design.
• Punctual, reliable, and responsible in completing tasks.
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, especially during performances and rehearsals.
• No experience is required, but any previous experience in school productions or technical clubs is a plus.
Time Commitment:
• Approximately 5-10 hours per week, with additional hours during production weeks, rehearsals, and performances.
