Work History

Exotic Small Mammal Representative and Aquatic Animal Representative

Virginia-Maryland Zoo, Exotic Pet, and Wildlife (ZEW) Club
12.2023 - Current
  • Much of my officer role for the ZEW Club is to: arrange learning opportunities such as rabbit spay lab, contact professional speakers to present to club members, and create club memberships for the AEMV and WAVMA as means of student resources.
  • As a member of the club, I also get to participate in other exotic species opportunities. Some that I have participated in so far include a turtle shell repair lab, volunteering at the Virginia-Maryland exotic animal open house, and listening to various speakers on exotic topics such as exotic animal ophthalmology.

Student Coordinator and Current President

Virginia-Maryland Wildlife Ward
10.2023 - Current
  • Responsible for taking calls and intaking injured wildlife in the surrounding area. Coordinators conduct basic triage for wildlife patients and arrange their transport to wildlife rescue centers or specialty individuals in the area once the animal has been stabilized and appropriately treated.
  • Coordinators are responsible for training/educating new members in the medical care and handling of wildlife.

Summer Intern

Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital of Georgia
05.2024 - 06.2024
  • Observed and assisted doctors specialized in exotic animal medicine. Due to being in a practice that only took exotic animals, I gained a much deeper understanding of clinical medicine for exotic species through diagnostics, treatment plans, preventative medicine, and surgical intervention. I also found my passion ignited in an exotics exclusive setting, so the experience was incredibly reaffirming for my career goals.
  • Along with exotic species, I saw wildlife cases/triage in the hospital.

Summer Volunteer

Arapahoe Animal Hospital
05.2022 - 08.2022
  • Assisted veterinarians in a private practice through tasks such as animal restraint, sanitation, preparing vaccinations, staining slides, and other basic duties.
  • Shadowed veterinarians by observing appointments and surgical procedures.
  • Worked with a variety of animal species in this hospital ranging from dogs/cats, exotic pets, to wildlife. The degree of species exposure greatly increased my knowledge and comfort working with a variety of animals.

Animal Care Technician

Volunteer/Student

Broadreach Volunteer Based Veterinary Study Abroad – Costa Rica

  • Assisted in cage enrichment, animal restraint, and helped veterinarians at nonprofit in spay and neuter procedures.
  • Attended classes in animal health and nutrition; received college credit.
  • Worked with species including dogs, swine, cattle, poultry, horses, exotic species native to Costa Rica. Set into motion a furthered interest in exotic and wildlife species and led me down a path to gain more knowledge and experience in these areas.

  • Shadowed veterinarian, Dr. Tran in a clinical veterinary setting to gain knowledge of the veterinary profession and observe patient appointments and medical procedures.
