Marine Mammal Surveyor - ORCA Surveyor Network

Conduct systematic marine mammal surveys aboard ferries and cruise vessels, collecting scientific data on cetacean species, behavior, and environmental conditions. Work as part of a trained team to observe and record sightings using standardized distance-sampling methods, contributing to large-scale monitoring efforts that inform marine conservation policy. Maintain accurate GPS and environmental data while effectively communicating findings to ORCA’s central database. This volunteer role supports the identification of Important Marine Mammal Areas (IMMAs) and contributes to evidence-based protection of vulnerable marine ecosystems.
