Working on a Medical Surgical Unit I performed many tasks for patients such as removing foley catheters, emptying JP drains and ostomy bags, and removing IV's. I've monitored vital signs and reported changes to nursing staff promptly, assisted patients with daily living activities while promoting independence, and transported patients demonstrating proper body mechanics for the patient and caregiver. Documenting patient information accurately in electronic health records for continuity of care was performed throughout these tasks; caring for up to 12 patients. Above all, I built relationships and established trust with the patients allowing comfort and proper care during what could be the most difficult and stressful times of their lives.
Administered time-sensitive medication for specific residents, along with PRN medication. Completed med pass rounds at the beginning and end of shifts along with hourly rounds for certain patients. Other responsibilities as an overnight Med Tech consisted of assisting patients to bed, changing and dressing them throughout the night/for morning, and repositioning or transporting residents from bedside to their bathroom and back. I have further learned the importance of patience and patient care that is necessary to comfort and encourage the residents daily.
Being a PCA on the orthopedic floor of a hospital allowed me to gain knowledge and guidance from a diverse range of RNs about the career in which I seek to pursue. I worked 7P.M.-7A.M. night shifts, and on occasion had the entire floor- up to 36 beds- at a time. I was required to perform phlebotomy on patients, along with bathing, changing, positioning, and feeding them. Also, send bloodwork to labs, recorded patient vitals, and Intakes and Outputs on paper and into an online charting system. Responding and fulfilling the requests of patients, and even simply sitting down to converse with them. This gave me the ability to provide patients support and how to form relationships with one another.
After working at Chick-fil-a, I understand the necessary treatment that allows customers to feel comfortable in an outside environment. Putting their needs first, and ensuring they are fulfilled with a feeling of joy along with the desire to return. I have acquired the ability to stay composed in stressful situations and take extra initiatives to satisfy customers.
