Work History

Temp Engine/ Deck Help

Capt. Dave Guinan
Newport, RI
06.2020 - 10.2024
  • Company Overview: Meraki (50 m SY), Knickerbocker (36 m SY).
  • I've known Capt. Guinan most of my life. Our families have been closely connected for over 15 years. He has given me many opportunities, on and off, to be of service to the program.
  • My jobs have varied from engine room detailing, deck detailing, teak furniture refurbishment, replacing raw water hoses, water membranes, water pumps, and other assemblies. Including replacing first aid kits, taking inventory, and running a small team behind me. My team could confidently confide in me when needed.
  • Conducted system analysis and testing to identify and resolve technical issues or inefficiencies.
  • Completed day-to-day duties accurately and efficiently.

Deckhand

Capt. Borris
Fort Lauderdale
04.2021 - 06.2021
  • MY Self Made 34m
  • Hired as a mate/ engineer
  • Washdowns, waxing/ compounding
  • Handled lines, and some time behind the wheel
  • Clean strainers, replace filters, and detailing
  • Did some work as a chef/ bartender on owner trips

Mate

Gerry Buchheit
Newport, RI
06.2023 - 06.2024
  • 2023 Ferretti Custom Line (33 m MY Gerrys Ferry). I met this program as a client originally in Newport, RI. Spent about two weeks bringing the vessel back to its beauty after a long shipyard period, and the delivery up to New England.
  • The captain quickly realized my work ethic and knowledge of the industry. Hiring me just the week after as a full-time crew member on board.
  • My jobs on board varied heavily. When guests weren't on board, I managed the entire deck department and water toys. While also doing my routine check-ups in the engine room.
  • I also took guests on many fishing excursions, and I assisted in the kitchen to prepare meals for guests ranging from 4 to 12 total.
  • I managed meetings with contractors almost daily, ensuring projects were completed to our standards.
  • Spent hundreds of hours in the wheelhouse helping with voyage plans and taking command of watches. We used paper charts as often as possible, which always helped keep that skill of the industry sharp.
  • I also became very familiar with the 37 ft Edgewater tender, three outboards rated at 300 hp each. I am very comfortable performing towing operations with two people or just myself. Driving the tender itself was second nature to me, a very simple craft to command.

Temp Deckhand

Capt. Scott
Newport, RI
07.2022 - 08.2022
  • 50 m MY Far From It
  • This is one of the super yachts I normally help in Newport, RI, get ready for charters.
  • Unexpectedly, I needed a deckhand for upcoming charters.
  • I jumped on board and assisted with towing the tender, maintaining, and launching water toys.
  • Washdowns, waxing/compounding, interior maintenance, engine room assistance, and watch standing.

  • Later, I reconnected in December of 2021 and worked with them for two months during the yard period.

Bio

I am a very goal driven Individual. I grew up in Newport, RI. At a very young age learned how to sail and went out to sea by the age of 12 for 3 weeks on a tall ship. I attended one of the maritime academies in the U.S. In 2019, I was accepted to Maine, SUNY, and Massachusetts Maritime Academy I decided to attend the Massachusetts Maritime Academy; they had offered me a full scholarship I now do what I can to learn from the most skilled captains, mates, and deckhands of the industry I no longer attend the academy, though you will notice the short durations of work are due to schooling.
