Graduate Assistant for Residence Life

  • The Graduate Assistant for Residence Life works alongside the Director of Residence Life throughout the academic year.
  • As the G.A. Lucas manages a team of 25 student workers. He is responsible for hiring, training, and approving the time cards of these employees.
  • Lucas is responsible for upkeeping the University's MiddleBrooke apartments, checking in and moving out residents, maintaining guest units, and managing the keys.
  • Lucas also fills in throughout the Residence Life department, working as the Resident Director on-call, performing room checks, and responding to the various needs of the department.

Resident Life Intern

  • The Resident Life Intern works along side the Resident Life Director during the summer to prepare the Residence halls for students in the upcoming year.
  • His primary task was assigning students housing for the year of 2023-2024, accommodating students when necessary.
  • Produced a master excel sheet noting all the supplies available to the residence life department in all of the closets across the dorms.
  • Produced signage for the upcoming year to be displayed throughout campus.
  • Organized a shipment of additional bedding and furniture in preparation for the dorm flip. Managed a team of student workers to move in the new furniture and store old furniture.

Resident Assistant

  • Serve as a role model with respect to all university and residence hall policies and procedures, as established in the AMU Student Handbook.
  • Fulfill the job expectations and embody the mission of a Resident Assistant, as detailed in the RA Manual.
  • Participate in the opening and closing of the residence halls at the beginning and end of each semester, beginning with this semester (May 2022). Optional for new RAs, mandatory for returning RAs.

  • When instructed by the RD, conduct meetings for new residents of your hall, outlining residential standards and addressing residence hall policies in order to assist in the transition of new students.
  • Fulfill programming requirements as instructed by the Department of Residence Life. Initiate, plan, and implement a minimum of one event/program per semester, from floor to campus scale, that focus on one of these four categories: Academic, Spiritual, Social, or Health.
  • Participate in major hall or campus events and functions, encouraging residents to participate in campus life as well, including but not limited to Dorm Wars.
  • Attend and participate in fall and spring RA training programs for the Academic Year of 2022-2023: o Fall 2022: Report at 8:00am on Friday, August 5, 2022 and depart after 5:00pm on Sunday, December 11, 2022 (subject to change). o Spring 2023: Report 8:00am on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 and depart after 5:00pm on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 (subject to change).
  • Participate in individual evaluations as determined by the RD and DRL.
  • Complete administrative tasks as detailed in the RA Manual and as needed by your RD, in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Perform regularly scheduled duty nights and secondary shifts in the hall office; approximately 2-4 per week.
  • Duty Nights include (but are not limited to): completing a sufficient duty log, performing rounds every hour, responding to emergencies and lockouts, removing old and posting new activity flyers, visiting rooms, and cleaning, building relationships with students, submitting work orders, etc.
  • Facilitate Room Checks in your hall, according to the schedule established by the RD.
  • Be available to the residents of your floor.
  • Report any maintenance problems (by submitting a work ticket to Facilities) in a timely manner.
  • Follow the guidelines given in the RA Manual regarding the use of office keys and do not lend them to unauthorized persons.
  • Perform other work-related duties as detailed in the RA Manual or as assigned by the RD and/or DRL.

Admissions Assistant

As the Office Intern Lucas' primary role was to help with the behind-the-scenes organization of camp, including corresponding with parishes and collecting needed information prior to their arrival at camp. Lucas assisted with preparing and maintaining data in order to organize and complete the necessary logistical tasks to ensure the smooth running of summer camp. Additionally, Lucas was responsible for assisting in fundraising efforts for Life Teen to further the mission of leading teens closer to Christ. Some of Lucas' main tasks for each week include but is not limited to:

  • Hospitably welcoming all guests and visitors at camp;
  • Organizing and maintaining the collection of parish paperwork:

- Ensuring correct paperwork is received for every camper, chaperone, nurse, sister, and priest coming to camp.

- Contacting parishes and following up on any missing paperwork.

- Recording parish information and camper / chaperone numbers to report to Guest Relations.

  • Checking in parishes when they arrive and collecting any outstanding paperwork or payments.

Various responsibilities included: ensuring their acclimation to seminarian life, ensuring they maintained a healthy work habit, explaining the spiritual significance of the role of a seminarian, explicitly explaining the way of life of the seminary, and reporting to superiors when they were ready for full initiation into the seminary.
  • Served as the host of the seminary's campus ministry outreach Mass. Was responsible for coordinating a team of eight other seminarians to set up Mass, welcome guests, and advertise for the event.
  • Served as the Canis Magnus (Big Dog) or Diocesan leader for the Archdiocese of Mobile seminarians for the Fall of 2021.
  • Distributed communion and visited with members of Episcopal Homes nursing home on a weekly basis for the Fall semester of 2021.
