As an HHB coordinator, I investigate complaints of hazing, harassment and bullying, compile a thorough report in line with state statutes and BRSU policies to then be reviewed by a school principal for a determination. Often restorative sessions are lead by the HHB coordinator after a determination has been made.
  • Additionally, the HHB coordinator implements active and passive programming in an effort to educate students to be upstanders and positive influences in the school environment. This is done by regularly visiting classrooms to present lessons on how to be a positive community member, build healthy relationships, and how to make amends with others.

  • Long Trail School is an independent school for students in grades 6-12. The school has an enrollment of 220 students as of July 2020. Long Trail is the only school in Vermont accredited to offer the Diploma Program of the International Baccalaureate.
  • Dean of Student Engagement (interim) (2020-present) – oversee the students at Long Trail receive a positive and edifying experience in and out of the classroom. The Dean of Student Engagement is a member of the Leadership Team chaired by the Head of School.
  • In general, the dean oversees student conduct matters, student engagement activities, and responds to parent concerns. I will continue to teach one English course, the IB Language and Literature course for grades 11-12.
  • English faculty (2018-present) - Taught courses in early literature and literature by genre; certified in instruction of Language and Literature, a course for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program.
  • Athletic Director (interim) – (2018-2019) provided leadership and oversight for the athletic program at Long Trail School. Duties included: issuing uniforms; confirming coaching certifications and background checks; responding to parent concerns; scheduling facility uses; scheduling transportation. During this year the school initiated a track and field program that involved over forty students and placed in state competitions for both high school and middle school.
  • Committee Work:
  • Faculty member Strategic Planning Committee – a committee comprised of faculty, staff, administrators and community members of Long Trail School and the surrounding area to revamp, and enact a new strategic plan for the school.
  • Chair of the Honor Board – a component of the conduct process comprised of faculty and students to review and meet with students accused of breeching the honor code of Long Trail School. The Board determines responsibility of the student(s) before the Board. The Board then recommends appropriate sanctions to the Head of School based off the facts of the incident and contrition of the student(s) involved.
  • Co-chair, Screening and Monitoring Committee – created for the purpose of planning for the re-opening of the school in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee reviewed guidance and best practices from the CDC, NIH, WHO, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the state of Vermont, and other sources to create policy and practice for screening students and staff for symptoms of COVID-19. The committee, comprised of faculty, staff, parents and students, also: created protocol for responding to possible positive COVID cases during the school day; reviewed and contracted with an outside vendor to procure a monitoring app to assist in morning screening; reviewed and purchased PPE equipment in alignment with CDC guidelines; created protocol for social distancing in classrooms and throughout the building; created protocol for facemask guidelines, acceptable facemasks and how to wear them; created guidelines by which students and staff should remain at home.

Students were also required to submit one play to an established/reputable ten-minute play contest. Students also analyzed acclaimed plays and worked with a non-theatrical text to assist in understanding human behavior. These texts have included: How to Win Friends and Influence People, The Art of War, and The Triggering Town.
  • Theatre History I: The first part of a two semester sequence of courses that all undergraduate theatre majors must complete. Theatre History I covers the Greek theatre up to Jacobean Drama, as well as Eastern theatre, noh, kabuki, bunraku, Peking Opera, and Sanskrit Drama.
  • Theatre History II: The second part of a two semester sequence of courses that all undergraduate theatre majors must complete. Theatre History II covers Restoration theatre up to the off-off-Broadway movement of the 1970s, along with a few contemporary works such as Fires in the Mirror, Angels in America, and Fences.
  • Script Analysis: A 300 level course, and introductory part of the Literature and Criticism curriculum. The foundation of the course rests with the text Backwards and Forwards. Students gain an understanding of structure and the essential parts that make drama work, obstacle/objective, stakes, given circumstances, and so on. Another four plays are read throughout the semester, along with Poetics, scholarly articles on selected plays. By the end they should be able to articulate their own process and apply it to any given script at any given time. It culminates in an intensive study and final project developed from a six week workshop of a classic work.
  • Contemporary Theatre: A senior level course for the Theatre Studies program. The course examines plays and trends from the last thirty years. Students read four different cycles of Pulitzer Prize finalists, the complete works of Sarah Kane, and study the non-traditional theatre techniques of Richard Schechner, Robert Wilson, Spiderwomen, and others highlighted in The New Radical Theatre Notebook by Arthur Sainer.
  • Introduction to Theatre for the non-Major: A course offered as part of the fine arts core curriculum, this course gives a general survey of how theatre has and does function in society; the various roles and responsibilities of each collaborator (director, actor, playwrights, designers, and producers), and the history of theatre. Students attend all departmental shows. The course culminates in practical application as the students write, direct and produce their own plays.
  • Honors Introduction to Theatre for the non-Major: A course offered exclusively to students in the Honors Program, it differs from the general course offering in that the class is smaller, twenty-students, and is much more reading and writing intensive. Students take trips to Chicago to see plays, hear from theatre professionals, and must submit work to Honorable Mentions (a journal of the Honors Program). The course still includes a year-end final production from the students to reinforce practical application.
  • Committee service: Season Selection Committee, Theatre Studies Committee (retention coordinator), and the General Education Curriculum Reform Committee for the School of Theatre and Dance.
