Project Planning & Oversight

• Develop and manage the inspection plan in line with:
  Project specifications
  Manufacturer’s coating guidelines
  Industry standards (e.g., SSPC, NACE/AMPP, ASTM, ICRI)
• Ensure resources (inspectors, tools, documents) are available and properly allocated.
• Coordinate with:
  QA/QC teams
  Contractors and applicators
  Engineers and owners/clients

Inspector Supervision & Guidance

• Supervise and train field inspectors on: surface preparation requirements for precast concrete for proper coating adhesion.
• Environmental condition monitoring (Ambient temperature, RH%, Dew point, Delta point (point spread).
• Application procedures. Documentation and reporting.
• Review inspectors’ daily reports for accuracy and completeness.
• Ensure inspectors perform checks like:
  Surface profile (ICRI CSP)
  Moisture testing (ASTM F2170/F1869)
  Wet/Dry Film Thickness (WFT/DFT)
  Adhesion (ASTM D4541 or similar)

Documentation & Quality Control

• Review and approve inspection documentation and coating records.
• Maintain a project coating logbook with:
  Inspection reports
  Test results
  Photos
  Product batch numbers
• Ensure traceability of materials and workmanship.

Compliance & Standards Enforcement

• Ensure all work meets:
  Client specifications
  Coating manufacturer guidelines
  Regulatory standards (e.g., VOC, safety)
• Verify that:
  Surface prep (e.g., CSP level) matches design intent.
  Coating systems are applied within pot life, recoat windows, and environmental limits.
  Proper repair/rework is documented and approved.

Communication & Issue Resolution

• Act as the main point of contact for coating-related QA/QC issues.
• Attend meetings with stakeholders to report on inspection status and resolve issues.
• Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for coating failures or deviations.

Final Inspection & Close-Out

• Oversee and approve final walkthroughs and punch lists.
• Sign off on:
  Final DFT readings
  Adhesion testing results
  Cure time logs
  Acceptance of coating systems
• Ensure all inspection documents are submitted to the client or project team.

Coatings QC Technician – Key Responsibilities

• Perform quality control inspections of surface preparation and coating application processes in accordance with project specifications, manufacturer data sheets, and applicable standards (e.g., NACE, SSPC, ISO).
• Monitor environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, dew point) to ensure compliance before and during coating operations.
• Verify surface cleanliness and anchor profile using visual inspection, profile gauges, and comparator methods.
• Measure and document wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) using calibrated instruments (e.g., Elcometer, Defelsko).
• Conduct holiday testing, adhesion tests, and other quality checks as required by project specifications.
• Ensure correct materials and batch numbers are used, with proper mixing and pot life control.
• Complete inspection reports, daily logs, and final quality documentation for coating system compliance.
• Communicate findings to supervisors, applicators, and client representatives to resolve non-conformities and support rework planning.
• Participate in quality audits, punch list walkdowns, and turnover documentation.
• Promote and enforce site safety standards and quality control procedures.
