Summary

Since joining the Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO), I have completed the Corrections Officer Basic Recruiting Academy (COBRA) training and obtained my basic jailer's license. I started in the Health Services Building on the evening shift, completing my Field Training Officer (FTO) phase. I have been assigned as a corrections officer for 3 months at the Health Services Building, previously working as a kickboxing instructor at 10th Planet Austin for four years. My extensive martial arts training has given me confidence in facing confrontation and fueled my passion for helping others, which has led me to pursue my career in law enforcement.

. Corrections Officer

Currently my assignment is Corrections Officer for Travis County Health Services Building. Responsibilities I face are to:

- Ensure safety and security of inmates within the facility by conducting searches, supervising activities, and maintaining order.

- Initiated disciplinary action when necessary, following established procedures for documenting violations and infractions.

- Escorting inmates to and from official visits, clinic appointments and any necessary movement around complex

- Maintaining official counts and accountability of each inmate assigned to my unit or post assignment

- Responsible for the wellbeing of inmates in our custody including adequate access to medical, programs, chapel services and mental health services

- Communicate efficiently with mental health inmates

- Respond to crisis situations such as fights, fire alarms, medical emergencies, etc. according to policy and procedure.

-Conduct outside perimeter security checks of the building/section at least once per shift, checking for damage or maintenance concerns, as well as for inmates tampering with windows, doors, walls, etc. in possible escape attempts.
