Collaborated with Sherri Johnson, DVM from Texas who pioneered equine BFR. Blood-flow restriction (BFR) training is an exciting treatment modality in human post-injury rehabilitation, which is now gaining attention in horses. Very little is known about the mechanism by which BFR works, so the goal of this summer research was to conduct a small pilot project in healthy horses geared towards better understanding some of these mechanisms. Research assistant for project on endometrial fibrosis and utilizing immunomodulator to degrade endometrial cups in mares. This project required ultrasound scanning of approximately 8 mares per day. As well as IV blood draws, IM injections, rectal palpation, female cyclicity manipulation, sperm collection, and sperm evaluation. Approved for publication on 2/1/2024.
