• I spent time in the classroom my mother worked in throughout my childhood and into high school. That is when I decided that teaching was for me. She was an assistant in a Reading Specialist's classroom.
• When I began school at Blue Ridge Community College, I worked in the Work-Study Program at McSwain Elementary School. I helped teachers prepare classroom materials and did small group work with the students. I worked with all four first grade classrooms and worked with the reading specialist on Fridays.
• I also completed three practicums at this school.
• I completed my student teaching at Craigsville Elementary School in a 2nd grade classroom.
• After my student teaching I began working at Craigsville Full time as an Instructional Aide in a fifth grade classroom. I did a lot of small group work in this classroom. I led a guided reading group daily. In that group, we read different types of text and worked on comprehension strategies. I also led a group for math daily. In that group, I taught the same lesson as the lead teacher. We had a rather large class (25 students) so splitting them into two groups made the lessons go smoother. I also jumped in and helped wherever else I was needed throughout the day.
• While working at Craigsville I was also TLC teacher. TLC (The Learning Community) is an after-school program for students who are struggling academically. I taught 4th and 5th grade in this program. I focused on the enrichment of math and reading for these students.
• After leaving Virginia I started work at Mascotte Charter School where I was a kindergarten teacher. I spent my first year as a first grade teacher, teaching all subjects. After that for two years, I was exclusively teaching ELA in first grade. The last two years I was there I taught kindergarten.
• I have my reading and ESOL endorsements for the state of Florida.
• Currently, I work for MgM Integrated solutions in Information Technology. I have learned so many valuable skills through this job.
