Lab Overview: The Anantharam lab is interested in the underlying mechanism of calcium-triggered exocytosis in endocrine cells. Specifically, the lab is investigating the role of the ubiquitous calcium sensor, synaptotagmins, in regulating insulin hormone secretion.

• Composed preliminary exam proposal and defend the proposal to a committee of experts in the field
• Designed and created various mutant constructs in stable Beta-cell line
• Using skills in cell culturing, Total Internal Reflection Fluorescence (TIRF) microscopy, calculating fusion probability in FIJI and IDL to collect and organize data to answer my research question

Lab Overview: The Heese lab is interested in the roles of vesicular trafficking in plant innate immunity. The lab focuses on Arabidopsis clathrin-coated vesicle (CCV) components with novel roles in immune signaling and responses to bacterial pathogens.

• Attended weekly lab meetings to present and discuss research results and research papers
• Created multiple new plants lines and maintained a catalog of each type of seed for the lab
