Work History

Direct Support Professional/Caregiver

Central State Community Services
Bruce Township, MI
07.2022 - Current
  • I care for residents of all ages that have both physical and intellectual disabilities.
  • I cook meals for the residents, assist them in eating, bathing, dressing, completing daily hygiene, and using the bathroom.
  • I do arts and crafts with residents, play games with them, and do physical activities with them during downtime.
  • I'm certified to pass medications in Macomb county, and pass medication to residents up to six times a day, keeping track of vital information as well. I keep track of medication passes by logging them in the computer and documenting the medication count on paper.
  • I'm also certified in resident rights for Macomb County
  • I document resident information in logbooks every shift, keeping track of eating patterns, sleep patterns, and behavioral patterns. I also record every duty I complete in shift-specific books.
  • I work in accordance with every residents individual plan of service book, cooking specialized meal plans, keeping track of everyone's individual goals, and making sure goals are accomplished each month.
  • I work both day shift and night shift, and deep clean the home overnight while monitoring residents while they sleep.
  • I've worked at three different group homes within the company, picking up extra shifts whenever I can, and covering other workers when they call in. I've never called in myself, and I've never been written up.
  • The house I work for the most is considered behavioral, and I've been trained how to stay calm under pressure and intervene during a crisis for residents with challenging behaviors.
  • I was trained to use an accessible van, and take residents on outings on occasion, monitoring them wherever we go to ensure everyone is safe and don't get overstimulated.
  • I've cared for multiple bedbound residents, multiple residents in wheelchairs, and multiple residents with epilepsy.
  • I make sure residents feel safe and comfortable at all times, and I've built strong relationships with them. I love seeing them light up when I come into work, and will visit them even after I find other employment.

Cashier/Waresperson/Donation Center Attendant

Goodwill
Lapeer, MI
06.2021 - 06.2022
  • I began as a cashier, greeting customers and checking them out, and making sure I maintained a balanced drawer.
  • I was trained to process refunds, returns, and answer questions about promotions and store policies.
  • I built relationships with many of the repeat customers, and tried making sure everyone that left the store would want to come back and shop again.
  • I would stay busy during downtime and clean the store up, then started seeking out opportunities for growth.
  • After working efficiently for months, working as many hours as I could, and proving myself to management, I moved to the housewares center in the back of the store, sorting through donations quickly and determining what was of value and how to price them.
  • Being a waresperson was my favorite part of working at Goodwill. I liked bringing out my cart of goods around 7 times a day, and seeing customers get excited about new things. It was fun to talk to them while reorganizing the shelves and swapping out old items with new items.
  • I was trained to upload items to the shopgoodwill website, an online store where very valuable items and collectibles were sold.
  • I was eventually trained as a donation attendant as well, and helped accept donations at the loading dock.
  • Working in donations was hard manual labor at times, such as when furniture was donated, and I grew close with the other employees after working with them as a team.
