As the DUI (drug and alcohol intervention specialist) counselor my role entailed meeting with clients to provide direct clinical services including individual, couples and group counseling. Multiple duties also involved working with the treatment team to evaluate client health and substance abuse problems and comprehensive and ongoing assessments. As the lead facilitator for the drug and alcohol intervention program, daily group therapy sessions at a maximum of 25 clients per group teaching clients coping mechanisms, drug and alcohol awareness and exploration into personal issues, anger management, relapse prevention and grief and loss. Routine daily case note documentation and assessments were maintained with clarity and consistent updates. Setting up aftercare plans, referring clients to support groups like AA and NA, meeting with family members to teach and educate on emotional support and guidance. In addition to this, my work involved being the DUI educator and counselor for Arizona state mandated DUI treatment and Diversion court mandated treatment providing group and individual counseling addressing drug and alcohol barriers due to legal ramifications.

Group topics led were on Relapse Prevention, Substance Abuse, Anger Management, Suicide & Depression, Grief and Loss, Successful Parenting and Drug Court. In addition, my role involved facilitating  Child Therapy Groups at the Marcus Garvey Elementary School for 3rd and 4th graders in groups of 8 individuals focusing on Grief and Loss and Child Development. As a therapist my position also called for completing one on one individual counseling sessions addressing substance abuse and mental health as state mandated by the Oklahoma drug court system.
