Maria Rose Connour

As a shelver for the Hyde Park branch of the Cincinnati Public Library, it is my responsibility to ensure order and proper presentation of the materials the library has available. This position also requires customer interaction and a keen knowledge surrounding the placement and location of materials.

• I first began work at The Courier as an intern where I edited and wrote feature pieces. After working there for a few months, I was offered the paid position of a correspondence writer. As an editor, I worked to perfect pieces that were written by others and as a feature writer I wrote about various events and interviewed various businesses. As a correspondence writer, I was directed to write up articles about news in and around the Ohio area.

• I first worked for Polaris in an unpaid copy-editing position, before being offered the paid position of Fiction Editor my sophomore year of college. Polaris accepts submissions in nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and art. As Fiction Editor, it was my responsibility to choose which fiction submissions we published, as well as working with the writers, overseeing discussion groups, and editing those pieces for the final product.

• As a waitress at Campus Pollyeyes, it was my job to take orders, cater to a customers needs, handle payment, and exhibit a friendly personality. As a kitchen worker, I was responsible for supplying food that met the customers needs and requests. Before this, I had previously done kitchen work for three years at a local deli while I was in high school, which I began at age sixteen. This position helped to cover finances while I was earning my degree.
