As an RN, I establish patients’ plan of care
I monitor patient vital signs and reporting out of normal range labs and vital signs to the doctor
I draw the patient’s blood as ordered
I assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing and grooming
I administer medications by mouth as ordered
I administer IV medications as ordered
I administer medications via nasogastric tube and percutaneous gastric tube
I evaluate patient care and ongoing treatment
I insert nasogastric tube, I maintain it, and I remove it as ordered
I initiate, I maintain, and I monitor tube feedings
I scan patient’s bladder for retained or residual urine
I perform intermittent catheterization for male and female patients
I insert indwelling catheter, I maintain it, I care for it, and I remove it as ordered, for male and female patients
I insert peripheral intravenous lines, I maintain them, and I remove them as ordered
I perform ultrasound guided intravenous insertion, maintenance, and removal
I do echocardiogram as ordered and I interpret results
I monitor fluid intake and output for patients with heart failure
I perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques
I apply the nursing process
I do dressings care as ordered
I prepare patients for procedures, including making sure the procedure paperwork is done, and I monitor them after the procedure is completed.
