In current role as a Nurse Surveyor, with the Department of Health and Human Services, Health Quality Section:

  • Investigate and inspect healthcare facilities for compliance with Medicare and state licensure requirements.
  • responsibilities encompass a wide range of healthcare institutions that include acute care hospitals, psychiatric hospitals, free standing emergency rooms, ambulatory surgery centers, dialysis centers and birth centers.
  • Patient complaints are addressed and a thorough investigation is completed and findings are shared with leadership.

Nurse

Department Of Veterans Affairs - United States Government

As a nurse for the Department of Veterans affairs, assumed several roles within the organization that included the Prime Care Nurse Executive,

  • Supervised 15 Nurse Managers across various areas, including ambulatory care clinics emergency department, cardiology, and nine community outpatient clinics.
  • My responsibilities included overseeing nursing practice for bedside nurse, ensuring top-quality patient care was delivered, and fostering collaboration within various departments at Micheal E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.

My five year tenure at the South-Central VA Health Care Network

  • As program manager, programs were created to assist young Veterans to readjust back into life after returning from the Iraqi war.
  • This task encompassed implementing these programs within ten medical centers across five states.
  • This included distribution and monitoring funds, strategic plans, training and creating special events and establishing regular communication and goals.
  • Other programs that were created include Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, to address and prevent chronic disease and address mental health issues.
  • Caregivers Group was also established to address needs of caregivers that assist and care for chronically ill Veterans.
  • Pain Advisory Group addressed traditional and non-traditional treatment modalities for pain.
  • These non-traditional methods such as chiropractic care and healing touch and yoga were not offered at all facilities but were being monitored for effectiveness.
  • DVD was created to capture first hand experiences of Veterans across the network that could be shared with families and new patients.

As a research compliance nurses for the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Administration

Hospital,

  • Was responsible for performance improvement activities for 500+ human research protocols. This task encompassed, coordination of education and training through monthly meetings and quarterly audits for research protocols.
  • Computed based research 101 course was created to assist research staff with training and orientation to research service.
  • As a staff nurse and nurse manager for this organization, I worked in various areas within the facility, including the emergency department, critical care and spinal cord prior to moving into research and program management.

My hobbies include yoga, pilates, Zumba, guided imagery, art, reading and traveling.
