With a robust background at Maury Regional Hospital, I excel in delivering compassionate patient care and advanced medication administration. My experience spans ICU to palliative care, highlighted by leadership in critical COVID-19 responses and a talent for fostering team unity. My adeptness in patient assessments and empathy ensures high-quality, holistic care.
After graduating from Columbia State in 1997, I was first hired into a flex two position at Maury Regional. I was a float nurse in this position for approximately two years. I floated through the hospital with experience from the nursery, OB, pads, surgery, orthopedic, oncology, med-surg, surgery, same day, ICU, CCU, and SNU. I didn’t know that I became a master of any, but it was a great opportunity for experience. Around 2001, I then took a position on the surgery floor and also relief charge nurse. I stayed there until I was offered a position as a PICC nurse. I traveled to every unit in this roll becoming familiar with a wide array of patients and conditions along with different doctors. This was a PRN position and I stayed with it for six years. I needed full time benefits. I then took my current position on ICU step-down. I am relief charge nurse and preceptor. We have an influx of students that I am frequently teaching as well. In 2019 ICU step-down became ground zero for COVID. We were faced with situations that I never could have anticipated. We cared for critical issues and critical patients. Ventilators and drips became a part of our routine during this time. Dealing with death and dying, families and the community during this period was challenging. I would like to think that I am all the better for it . Hospice also became a very important aspect. Communication between patients and their families, and doctors was crucial. The only way to survive was to work as a team and learn to lean on each other. These things can only be accomplished through experience and understanding.
