Work History

National MEP Director

McCarthy Holdings, Inc
St. Louis, MO
02.2017 - 09.2024

National Business Leader and Chief Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) Subject Matter Expert for one of the largest general contractors in the USA. In this role, I was responsible for developing and implementing the business plan to improve the company's MEP capabilities. This plan was a key part of the overall company strategic plan that grew the company from $3.5 billion annual revenues to their present value of almost $8 billion per year in a 5-year period.

In this role, I directly or indirectly supervised all of the 400 plus employees responsible for delivering the MEP trade packages on commercial projects. Industries served included aviation, hospitality and entertainment, healthcare, higher education, and laboratory research facilities.

Position duties included program management of the company's MEP program, training and talent development, recruitment to grow the MEP workforce, business development, strategic planning, risk management, quality management, public speaking at national industry trade events, legal claims and expert witness testimony, design management, scheduling, commissioning, project management, and assistance on high-risk or highly complex projects.

MEP Preconstruction Director

McCarthy Building Companies Inc.
Newport Beach, CA
05.2015 - 02.2017

Responsible for the development of the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design for all McCarthy projects within Southern California. Duties included preparing bid packages for subcontractor selection, writing and negotiating subcontracts, leading the mechanical and electrical engineers to develop the building designs, preparing budget estimates, and finally arriving at the contract price.

Consultant

McGlathery Consulting
Denver, CO
05.2010 - 03.2015

Started my own construction consulting business focused on providing design phase and construction phase services to general contractors. I was hired by McCarthy Building Companies to oversee the design of the $1.5 billion VA Replacement Hospital in New Orleans. I co-located with the designers, supervising the design to ensure it met the VA requirements, and the design was within budget. In addition, I prepared all of the MEP trade package bids and supervised the procurement of these trade packages in conformance with U.S. government contract law.

Another project I was hired to perform, by another general contractor, was a build-out of a major healthcare facility addition and expansion. This was a 100,000 square foot addition within an existing operating hospital that involved design management and the project management of the construction.

Chief Operating Officer

Crabb Mechanical
Denver, CO
06.1997 - 12.2010

Owned and operated a large commercial mechanical contracting company, with over 250 employees, in the Denver area. The company was a union contractor that specialized in healthcare and higher education construction. Annual revenues exceeded $50 million per year on a regular basis.

My role in this position was to oversee all company operations. This included business development and obtaining new business, estimating, procurement of large equipment and materials, human resources, financing the company, accounting, as well as operations oversight.

One of my primary roles was managing the legal affairs of the company. On some occasions, contract disputes would arise. I managed several claims to a successful conclusion for the company. One large claim became a large lawsuit. I was involved in preparing the discovery packages, reviewing the other parties' information, depositions of witnesses, including being deposed myself, and eventually going to trial. The company was successful in its claim and was awarded over $5 million in damages.

Consulting Engineer

ENSR
Oak Brook, IL
02.1994 - 04.1997

Provided technical and business consulting services for clients within the manufacturing, transportation, oil and gas, and agricultural industries. The services I provided included: environmental compliance and permitting, environmental engineering design and application for groundwater and wastewater treatment, and first responder responsibilities to railroad train derailment incidents.

My job was to do the business development to obtain new clients, and then to manage the project to its completion. In this role, I developed new, innovative water treatment technologies that provided my clients with cost-effective solutions on their projects.

Environmental Specialist

Oak Brook , IL
03.1990 - 12.1993

Senior Environmental Engineer responsible for developing innovative technologies for use in treating chemical and nuclear contaminated wastewater at US Department of Defense (DOD) and US Department of Energy (DOE) facilities. Also, worked with industry and agricultural clients to develop processes to quantify and remediate odor-causing contaminants. Prepared and published several technical articles, as well as presented at industry conferences, to document my work.
