My intial time as a working student and riding instructor gave me the base of knowledge necessary to excel in the equine industry as well as practice in taking direction and applying it to my various duties. Simultaneously, I was starting my own training business, Rax Run Eventing, which afforded me the opportunity to hone my skills managing staff and finances. I also gained a cursory knowledge of contracts such as bills of sale, liability releases, and boarding agreements. I learned how to be a strong leader through my work with horses, students, and staff in my role as their trainer, mentor and coach. Lastly, I am an effective oral communicator and was able to refine this skill through teaching lessons, interacting with vendors and practitioners, and promoting the business. One such promotion involved being on a podcast where I was able convey key messages, while maintaining a conversational flow in an unscripted interview.
