Community Service

Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation- Baltimore, MD 

  • The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation creates opportunities for the youth of underserved communities to learn valuable life skills such as teamwork, responsibility, communication, and positivity.
  • I have been volunteering for this foundation for the past year and one of the most impactful experiences was working the Having A Ball Summer Camp. This is a 1 week summer camp for at-risk youth that provides transportation, housing, food, and Under Armour gear. I worked behind the scenes helping to set up meals, bunks, and organize activities for the children.

Delta Gamma Philanthropy, Virginia Tech- Blacksburg, VA (2019-2022)

  • Joining Forces- Money raised during fundraisers for this program were donated to support the Salem Virginia Hospital. This hospital provides direct patient care for military veterans who became visually impaired or have experienced trauma to the eyes while in service.
  • Service for Sight- An annual drive to collect contributions to put towards the purchase of school supplies that we donated to the local schools for visually impaired students. We also coordinated hands on reading for the visually impaired children and educating those schools further on visual impairment.
  • The Hangout Program- I was a member of this program, in which, we befriended and accompanied local visually impaired women on dinner dates, trips to the mall, walks around campus, etc.

The Big Event, Virginia Tech- Blacksburg, VA (2018-2022) 

  • An event led by students to aid and serve the local residents of New River Valley, Virginia, who needed assistance in completing different duties around their house and property for which they were unable to do themselves. Some of the tasks included yard work, painting, cleaning, re-organizing, etc.

Refugee Youth Project, Notre Dame Prep School- Towson, MD (2016-2018)

  • This program aimed to provide a safe atmosphere for the refugee children of Moravia Elementary School after they finished their classes for the day. I would help the students with their homework, work with them to improve their English, and engage with them in outdoor activities.

Camp Umoja, Notre Dame Preparatory School- Towson, MD (2016-2018)

  • This camp at my high school provides children from Baltimore’s Public Housing with safe, inclusive, and high energy activities. I would engage with the children in numerous activities such as basketball, arts and crafts, swimming, computer classes, etc. I was able to create a strong bond with many of the children, gaining awareness of their life experiences, and becoming a safe shoulder for them to emotionally rely on.
