I open the OPS surgery department frequently and provide guidance to the nursing staff and the flow of preoperative surgical care. Also, I help provide pre surgical care to patients by administering medications,starting IVs, drawing blood and assessing patient health history and present condition . I report any potential abnormal results to anesthesia and surgeons.
However,my main job is to call preop patients and obtain medical history, order preop testing and evaluate . I work closely with anesthesia to provide a safe surgical experience by obtaining any clearances from patients' PCPs or specialists to ensure a successful and safe surgical outcome.
Besides calling the preop patients I am in charge of contacting surgeons' offices to coordinate all anesthesia requirements are met prior to their surgery. I will call hospitals,offices and LabCorp or Quest etc to obtain what is needed to make sure everything is correct and safe for the patient.
I am the lead nurse in the preop call center and ultimately ensure patient safety and surgeon satisfaction with the preop experience is achieved.
