  • Appropriate Surveillance for Non-Diabetic Patients After Inpatient Stress Hyperglycemia: Screening for Future Diabetes Development, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, 09/01/15-06/01/17. Retrospective chart review of inpatient admissions to Hershey Medical Center over a five year time period. Purpose was to determine if inpatient stress hyperglycemia in non-diabetic adults predicted future diabetes and aim was to develop appropriate surveillance measures for testing, frequency of testing, and associated inherited risk factors predicting diabetes.
  • Initiation and Titration of Basal-plus Insulin Regimen in the Residents’ Continuity Clinic for Patients with Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, 09/01/15-06/01/17. • DKA Subcutaneous Insulin Protocol, Lehigh Valley Health Network, 08/01/12-06/01/14. Six residents and two endocrinologists formulated a DKA SQ protocol for low risk patients presenting in DKA to be admitted to the floor for SQ insulin vs. to the ICU for insulin infusions. Our initiative was based on findings from a previous study in the Annals of Emergency Medicine suggesting SQ insulin was as effective as its infusion counterpart. We launched the protocol in March 2013 with hopes to replicate the study, decreasing hospital stay and overall cost.
  • DM Monofilament QI project, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Ambulatory Clinic, 12/01/13-05/01/14. Conducted in the Lehigh Valley Physicians Practice resident clinic in Allentown, PA. Focused on education and training of staff on monofilament testing, its importance, and the appropriate technique. Instituted monofilament checks for all diabetic patients, at every office visit, in hopes to provide more efficient diagnosis of DM foot ulcers, neuropathy, and other sensory related complications.
  • Continuity of Care QI project, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Ambulatory Clinic, 12/01/12-05/01/13. Conducted in the Lehigh Valley Physicians Practice resident clinic in Allentown, PA. Aimed to improve patient continuity with their resident provider by reviewing resident panels and using survey methods to ensure patients follow up with their appropriate continuity of care provider.
