Summary

Environmental Engineer with 7+ years of experience in water and wastewater treatment, PFAS remediation, and landfill leachate management. Specialized in optimizing biological and physicochemical processes, including BNR, Fenton/GAC treatment, advanced sludge management, and UV/O₃/Nano degradation for nutrient removal and water reuse. Skilled in innovative remediation strategies such as PFAS sequestration in concrete using coal fly ash and the development of waste-derived treatment technologies that integrate experimental and resource recovery approaches. Led NSF- and DOJ-funded projects, mentored students, fostered cross-disciplinary collaboration, and prepared technical reports, process evaluations, and design documentation. Proficient in DOE, Minitab, data analysis, nanomaterial synthesis, advanced analytical tools (EEM-PARAFAC, FTIR, FTICR-MS, TOC), analytical chemistry, and QA/QC protocols, with a passion for advancing sustainable water infrastructure through process optimization and technology innovation.

Work History

Graduate Research Assistant

JSNN, North Carolina A&T State University
08.2021 - Current
  • Designed and built biological nutrient removal (BNR) systems, including sequencing batch reactors (SBR) and enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR).
  • Conducted bench-scale SBR and EBPR with the Modified Ludzack–Ettinger (MLE) process, achieving 95% nitrogen and 87% phosphorus removal.
  • Improved sludge management by optimizing sludge volume index (SVI) and solid retention time (SRT); implemented dewatering and cake processing.
  • Prepared TiO₂ nanofibers via electrospinning and characterized with SEM, FTIR, XRD, EDX, and BET.
  • Applied Fenton oxidation, GAC, and UV/O₃ photodegradation with TiO₂ nanofiber and removed 89% dissolved organic nitrogen (DON); monitored with FTICR-MS, FTIR, EEM-PARAFAC, TOC, and spectrophotometry.
  • Conducted in-situ algal bioassays in the Neuse River estuary to assess DON's eutrophication risks and treatment effectiveness.
  • Developed a PFAS remediation strategy using modified coal fly ash (CFA) to adsorb PFAS and reused PFAS-laden CFA in concrete, minimizing leaching by 96%.
  • Reviewed pilot-scale membrane technologies (MBR, NF, RO) for PFAS-impacted water, with emphasis on reuse potential.
  • Mentored seven undergraduate students in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing, leading to conference abstracts and publications.
  • Collaborated with faculty and multidisciplinary teams on research, contaminant monitoring, and technical publications.
  • Presented research findings at university symposia and regional environmental conferences.

Graduate Instructional Assistant

Texas State University
01.2021 - 08.2021
  • Assisted with teaching and research responsibilities, supporting both classroom instruction and applied lab studies.
  • Conducted drinking water quality testing, stormwater parameters and metals in stormwater testing, and heterotrophic plate count (HPC) experiments.
  • Designed an 80 GPD mini pilot-scale system for Enhanced Water Recovery, integrating photobiological process with secondary reverse osmosis.
  • Collected and analyzed reclaimed water from a WWTP to support water quality research.
  • Reviewed 84 recent studies on drinking water ozonation and prepared a technical report for Mitsubishi Electric.

Lecturer in Civil Engineering

European University of Bangladesh
11.2017 - 12.2020
  • Taught undergraduate courses in Environmental Engineering, Waste Management, Fluid Mechanics, etc., emphasizing process optimization and wastewater application.
  • Led fieldwork and lab sessions, including Surveying, Drinking Water, and Wastewater Treatment Plant design and visits.
  • Facilitated workshops on essential software applications used in the field of civil engineering, preparing students for their future careers.
  • Supervised 18 student thesis projects, leading to 2 journal articles and 5 conference papers.
