Melissa Baez

• At the Salk Institute, I work in Dr. Wolfgang Busch's Plant Cell and Molecular Biology laboratory. I currently assist with genotyping, as well as molecular cloning of plant species, and RNA-seq of plant root-tips. In addition, I assist with a large-scale transplant experiment called Transplanta, which examines the root system architecture of mutant Arabidopsis thaliana lines whose transcription factors are induced with the hormone beta-estradiol.

• At Cibus, I worked in their Cell Biology department, where I performed in vitro plant cell/tissue culturing, seed germination, and soil transfer of plants.

While I was in the STEM Guided Pathways program at Cuyamaca College, I assisted in mentoring fellow students, to make sure they were setting achievable academic goals, and that they were staying on track with their general education plans.
