After a crew briefing, I would go out to the train consist and inspect the paperwork to make sure the equipment was inspected and the various brake tests were performed. I would also inspect the the locomotive, cars, and perform brake tests.
Transporting passengers from Brunswick, ME to Boston, MA and back. In order to become an engineer I had several months of classroom instruction, as well as, 12 or so months in the engineer's seat, seated next to a certified engineer instructor.
As an engineer, I was guided by hundreds of rules to insure passengers got from point A to B safely. I ran trains for almost 18 years and left Amtrak in good standing.
