Volunteer Work

I as an intern for a program called BxCHL-SHIP. Bronx Community Health Leaders - Summer High-School Internship (BxCHL-SHIP) is an
internship program intended to further students’ development in professionalism and volunteerism, and increase their overall knowledge of careers in the healthcare field. Through BxCHL-SHIP I have

  • Learned and gained knowledge about the healthcare field and the pre-health track.
  • Developed volunteerism and professionalism
  • Gained shadowing experience from a doctor as well as networked within the medical field

Volunteer

I volunteered with United Church of Jesus Christ for the blue print for wellness. At the blue print for wellness, member of the community come in to United Church of Jesus Christ and get a free screening for any potential health issues they may have that can be foreseen through drawing blood. They increase awareness of health issues and offer free vaccines to those who wish as well as flu shots. While volunteering, I had to set-up tables, desks and stations for patients to be treated as well as provide and serve food and seating for community members who participated. Furthermore I had to aid doctors by assisting them with gathering materials and organizing patients.
