Lead Refractive Technician and Surgical Assistant
Surgical:
- Employee training (clinical & surgical)
- Assist surgeons during refractive surgery(LASIK, PRK, SMILE) and epithelial debridements for corneal cross-linking
- Certified to operate VisuMax femtosecond(ZEISS) and WaveLight EX500(Alcon) Lasers during refractive surgeries
- Independently performing corneal cross-linking with the use of photoenhancers and the UV-A light
- Independent programming of the TOPOguided/CONTOURA and WFO methods with information extracted from scans and manual refractions
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy with surgical planning/programming, chart documentation, and data entry
- Create patient treatment plans that are surgeon specific with the use of IBRA, SurgiVision, and Phorcides
- Passing surgical instruments
- Preparing and maintaining a sterile field including the use of the Autoclave and proper biohazardous waste disposal
- Inventory
Clinical:
- Performing all diagnostic test including orb scan, topography, keratometry, pupillometry, aberrometry, wavelight/topolyzer, OCT, and more
- Assist in scheduling pre ops, post ops, surgery and co-managing appointments
- Determining candidacy based on scans, lifestyle, corneal tissue, randleman risk score, etc. to recommend the safest procedure for the patient
- Recognizing corneal abnormalities through scans including Keratoconus and educating the patient at length on presbyopia, corneal ectasia, risk, longevity, dryness, procedures, healing process, etc
- Accurately acquiring data on the patient at pre op appointments to further build treatment profile without error by following a strict routine
