I started my construction career back in high school where we built a residential home each school year. This is when i decided that I enjoyed the construction process. Since then I have always worked in the construction industry. This has allowed me to work on all aspects of the building process from residential to commercial projects. These years of working in the field made it an easy transition into becoming a building inspector and plan reviewer. During my time as an inspector I strived to educate myself in the various building codes and attend numerous trainings seminars to help obtain multiple certifications including my Minnesota Building Official Certification. Those years of experience and certifications allowed me to become the Building Official for the City of Moorhead.
As the Building Official for the City of Moorhead I supervise the Building Codes Department and work together with the Planning and Zoning, Engineering, Economical Development and the Government Affairs Departments. As well as working directly with the Fire Marshals for the City of Moorhead. Each year I prepare and submit the annual budget for the Building Codes Department and ensure that this budget is being maintained throughout the year. My time as a building inspector and now as the Building Official has allowed me to build a great relationship with the local home builders association (BIA of the Red River Valley). Each year I assist the association with the continuing education program for the contractors and participate in various training seminars, roundtables and events throughout the year. During my time as the Building Official I have brought on two new inspectors for our department through the BOT Grant provided by MN DOLI. These grants have provided valuable funds for the City as well as two excellent employees for the department. This has also allowed myself to build a great relationship with many individuals with the DOLI. When I became the Building Official I worked with the DOLI to obtain the State Delegation Agreement to Inspect the state owned and operated projects within the City of Moorhead. I have also helped train two inspectors within the department to also obtain this inspection delegation for the state. These delegations really help the construction projects with maintaining deadlines because of the ability to schedule their inspections directly through our department instead of with the regional state inspectors who are not as readily available. During my time working for the City of Moorhead, I have met with numerous builders and developers to try and promote the growth and development within the city as well as future development. This future growth is the key to providing the essential infrastructure needed to ensure a striving city that the public deserves.
Here at Midwest Inspections I preform the commercial plan reviews and assist with any building code related questions on commercial and residential building projects. I also assist with the field inspections when need be.
My daily duties included all types of building inspections in the field ranging from the initial footing and foundation inspections, all types of framing components along with energy inspections as well as all types of required inspections required by the IBC. When each project comes to a close I would preform the final inspection to ensure all life safety aspects are complete and functioning as well as all accessibility requirements have been met before issuing the final Certificate of Occupancy. Along with the daily field inspections I would also preform multiple plan reviews each week as well as assisting the plan reviewers with projects they are working on currently and giving them feedback on current projects during the construction process. In the office I strived to help out with any customers along with meeting with numerous architects and contractors to discuss different building and design components.
During my time at Olaf Anderson I worked on numerous commercial building and remodeling projects along with multiple apartment remodels and new construction. Supervising projects and crews on work sites and communicating with owners and sub-contractors daily.
Extensive work supervising crews with all aspects of concrete formwork and flat work. During this time I was able to work in many different municipalities in North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. This allowed me to work with many different field inspectors and inspection departments as well as obtaining information on the different building codes adopted by each State or jurisdiction.
